Getting started with your own blog is easy nowadays. In fact, if you’re using the right resources, it can take less than an hour.

But gaining traction, and visitors, for that blog is where the real work begins.

If you’re wondering why your blog isn’t gaining the traction you want, you’ve come to the right place.

Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why your blog isn’t performing and show you how you can fix it.

#1 - Because It Isn’t Targeted Enough

One of the biggest issues that new bloggers run into is that they are far too general in their approach.

While this gives you an opportunity to speak to a higher number of readers, it makes it extremely difficult to truly connect with them.

For example, if you have a travel blog, producing content about traveling to Australia, Europe, and Russia is going to confuse readers.

It creates a disconnect that can cause issues when it comes to getting visitors to stay on your blog and come back for more in the future.

To help with this, it’s imperative that you have a strong grasp of your target audience and narrow down your approach.

In the travel blog example, what if you were to simply focus on traveling to Australia? Or, even better, hone in on content about traveling to Melbourne?

Not only does this approach make it easier to connect to readers, but it will also help create the perception that you are an expert on a specific topic instead of someone that just has a general idea about numerous topics.

#2 – Because You Don’t Have a Unique Voice

If there’s one thing that you should know about producing blog content, it’s that uniqueness is absolutely necessary.

While it’s impossible to give an exact amount, several experts estimate that the amount of online content created every minute is in the hundreds of millions.

So, if you’re trying to compete with volume, you’re going to fail.

Instead, focus on developing an unforgettable voice that is unique to you.

Writing in the first person, being opinionated, and telling stories are all important aspects of creating a unique voice that your readers will grow to love.

#3 – Because You’re Not Focusing on Marketing

Building a successful blog is no longer solely about producing great content. In fact, some would say that writing great blog posts isn’t even half the battle.

Instead, they would say that the most successful blogs are often those that are marketed the best.

And they’re probably right.

Because, at the end of the day, producing amazing content doesn’t matter if no one but your mother and spouse see it.

If you want to gain traction and eventually bring in followers by the thousands, marketing your blog needs to be a priority.

Go out there, find your target audience, develop your unique voice, and master the art of blog marketing.

Your visitor count, and eventually your wallet, will thank you.
